Future Oswestry Community Representative Vacancy

Future Oswestry is looking for an enthusiastic, committed and people orientated individual to work as a representative of the community of Oswestry.

Future Oswestry is an exciting partnership between Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council and Oswestry Business Improvement District. The purpose of the group is to work collectively to make Oswestry a town where businesses can thrive, where families want to live and a place where tourists want to visit and enjoy. As a partnership, it is in the relatively early days of formation however members have achieved a lot so far including supporting the town through Covid by working together to create a safe and welcoming town centre for people to come to and move around. Future Oswestry has secured Historic England High Street Heritage Action Zone funding to support buildings in the town, bring vitality back to heritage buildings and as well an exciting programme of work looking at alley ways and some long standing difficult buildings. This is alongside a cultural consortium programme of activities being developed supported by Historic England.

Future Oswestry is also in the process of a visioning masterplan for the town, to bring together ideas and opportunities to enhance the future of the town and also look at actions plans to bring forward the ideas in more detail. As a group the partnership is keen to seize opportunities and show action on some quick and immediate issues for the town, and look to resolve these for the benefit of all.

As part of this, establishing the right communication channels is essential and being able to formulate debate and discussions through the formation of a community representative group is an important element of this and this role will be critical.

Future Oswestry would like an enthusiastic, committed and people orientated individual who can work with the partnership and the community it represents, to shape the future involvement and collaboration for the enhancement of the town. This is a voluntary position and you will be expected to attend meetings in both person and via zoom. You will be expected to represent the whole community and not any one specialist interest group. You will be expected to enter into this with positive intent to help shape the future of Oswestry for the people and businesses of the town.
