Support for older people over rising energy costs

Rising bills are impacting consumers and the Age UK network.

Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Age UK mirror the national concerns about the issue and know that the rising fuel costs have also impacted on oil costs, which affects many in our rural communities. Costs for a 1000 litre tank of oil have gone up by over £120 this year.

STW Age UK have seen significantly increasing demand through their phone lines and benefits team supporting local people.  This may in part be driven by concerns about rising living costs and then a double whammy of fuel costs hikes. It’s going to be a tough winter for some older people and the concern is that many older people will limit their heating due to costs and run the risk of poor health as a result.

STW Age UK will continue to add their voice to Age UK’s to lobby on this issue and hope others will too.

If you know of an older person who is struggling please refer them to STW Age UK and they will do their best to help by calling 01743 233123.
