Domestic abuse briefing

Domestic abuse has an impact on many lives. The effects are often felt across the family, especially in children who live with the experience.

When domestic abuse is experienced by adults with care and support needs there may be additional effects, needing an adult safeguarding investigation.

Aim of briefing

Interactive session delivered virtually, to raise awareness of the hidden prevalence of domestic abuse, and the signs and effects felt by the victims. Provides guidance on how to best support and guide those affected.

Learning outcomes of briefing

  • Identify what domestic abuse is
  • Explore the impact on others living in the home/family
  • What to do if you feel something isn’t quite right
  • Awareness of specialist support service available


Two hours.


This briefing is free of charge to attend.

Target audience

Everyone. It’s strongly suggested that all staff will access this awareness/induction level of training, which provides a valuable learning experience.

Equipment needed

This training must be accessed on a PC, laptop or tablet device. One device per learner will be required in order to record attendance and facilitate course interaction. Please note – functionality isn’t sufficient if you try to access the briefing via a mobile device.

Briefing dates/times

  • Wednesday 2 December 2020 – 10am to midday
  • Wednesday 10 February 2021 – 1pm to 3pm
  • Monday 1 March – 6pm to 8pm
  • Thursday 11 March 2021 – 10am to midday


Please could all Shropshire Council practitioners with an email address book via Leap Into Learning.

All delegates will receive acknowledgement of their booking and will be sent an invite to join the relevant Microsoft Teams session.

Learners will need to download any resources for each training session from their Leap into Learning account prior to attending. An online evaluation will need to be completed after the training, prior to a certificate of attendance being available to download.
