SAFEGUARDING TRUSTEE ROLE

The YSS Board of Trustees is looking to recruit a trustee to take the lead on safeguarding who will bring experience, expertise and knowledge to the scrutiny of safeguarding arrangements and best practice within YSS.

YSS is an independent charity working mainly across West Mercia. YSS enables people who face significant life challenges to feel safe, have the opportunity to thrive and to realise their potential, and we have been doing so for more than thirty years. There are thousands of people in our communities who struggle with life and face what seem to be insurmountable barriers – they are why we exist.

Our work is rooted in the local communities we serve. We have a strong local presence and a national profile for our innovative work. We strive to ‘punch above our weight’ to ensure our voice, and the voice of our service users, is heard and to influence and inform service design and policy.  We work with around 2000 people per year.

YSS employs 60 staff and about 100 volunteers working on different project across the region. Our Patron is HRH The Princess Royal.

As a YSS Trustee, you would share corporate responsibility for the strategic direction, legality, financial, social and environmental sustainability of YSS.

The Board of Trustees meet every 6-8 weeks for approximately 2-3 hours and you will also need to be available on one or two other days throughout the year to attend the staff conferences/meetings etc.  You will need empathy for the people we work with and be as passionate and dedicated as our staff and volunteers.

Trustees are unpaid but all reasonable expenses are reimbursed. Meetings are held in Worcestershire usually at our head office in Worcester.

If this role is of interest but you are unable to commit to a full trustee role but you have the relevant safeguarding knowledge and experience we would still like to hear from you as we would consider a trustee associate role.

To arrange an informal chat with either our Chair of Trustees or our Appointments Committee Chair  please telephone Ann Winter on 01905 730786 or email recruitment@yss.org.uk

Invitation to tender: Evaluation support for Landau’s Shropshire/Telford & Wrekin and Herefordshire Building Better Opportunities Marches LEP programme

Landau is a training and supported employment organisation formed as a charity and limited company (not for profit) in 1995, governed by Articles of Memorandum. Today we deliver services to a diverse range of individuals all requiring support and training to gain confidence, self-esteem, and independence through employment.

The Building Better Opportunities programme provides funding investment in local projects tackling the root causes of poverty, promoting social inclusion and driving local jobs and growth and is delivered in 38 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) areas according to local priorities.

Landau has been awarded funding from the ESF and the National Lottery Community Fund to lead two partnerships, one covering the county of Herefordshire with 8 organisations delivering and one project in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin with 16 organisations delivering Building Better Opportunities provision in The Marches LEP area. The funding runs to 30th June 2022 with partners finishing delivery at different times in the run up to March 2022.

We are inviting tenders for robust monitoring and evaluation support and provision for the project, along with support with upskilling project staff in monitoring and evaluation techniques and practices, to provide them with transferable skills. The attached monitoring and evaluation segment of the project plan (Annex B) gives more detail.

The monitoring and evaluation support should provide (but not be restricted to):

  • Guidance and support in setting parameters for the collection of monitoring data across the partnership, establishing systems and processes which meet European Social Fund (ESF) and the National Lottery Community Fund guidelines, rules and requirements
  • ‘Critical friend’ support over the life of the project, including production of regular evaluation reports and attendance at periodic performance review meetings
  • Support for partnership staff in monitoring and evaluation techniques and processes to enable them to take forward learning for use on future projects
  • A final evaluation report on both the outcome of service delivery and the effectiveness of the partnership itself

The budget for this activity is £22,500 to include all deliverables and expenses (inc. VAT).  All work must be completed by 31st March 2022.

Please provide us with a written proposal, which outlines:

  • An assessment of our needs as you see them
  • The support you are able to provide to meet these needs
  • A detailed method statement for how you will deliver this support
  • A schedule of deliverables/outputs and an indicative timescale
  • A budget, broken down by each element of your proposal and including day rates
  • Your track record and experience of working with the voluntary/charity sector and with the National Lottery Community Fund and ESF funding
  • Two referees

The deadline for proposals is 4pm, 6th December 2019

Please send your proposal to:
