The Human Library – upcoming events

The Shropshire Council Libraries Team have teamed up with international organisation and movement, the Human Library™, to set up a Human Library book depot in Shropshire.

Each Human Library™ event is designed to enable interactions that challenge stereotypes and prejudices through conversation. It is a library of individual human beings, drawn from different minority or marginalised groups in the community, that are somehow exposed to stigma, misunderstanding and / or discrimination.

Human Libraries take place across the world. Just like in a real library, a visitor to the Human Library can choose a book from a range of titles. The difference is that Books are people, and Reading is a conversation. Come along, meet people you wouldn’t normally meet and celebrate positive differences in our communities.

If you are interested in being a Human Book and want to share your story, then contact Mirka Duxberry to find out more on mirka.duxberry@shropshire.gov.uk.
