Shropshire Council currently purchases a day opportunities service for adults with a learning disability in the town of Church Stretton with some outreach at least one day per week in the Bishops Castle area the components of which are as follows:
• Support to Service Users increase independence including steps to and support with employment and travel training. Social and recreational activities which are interesting and stimulating and which assist in maintaining or improving social, psychological or physical functions including co-ordination, mobility and exercise
• Assistance with personal care, provided in a dignified manner to ensure self-respect is maintained
• Information and practical support relevant to the needs of Service Users
• Transport in the local area when planned as a day opportunity activity.
The Council wishes to continue to provide the service in these geographical areas and to this end we wish to discuss and affirm our current understanding of what the market has to offer to assist the Council to deliver the service in future.
